First Episcopal District Women's Missionary Society

Sis. Patricia Smith; President

The Women's Missionary Society is a corporate body of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.  It is an international body and as such, consists of various levels including  the Connectional, the District, the Conference  and the Local. This great body boasts of over 800,000 women. There are twenty Episcopal Districts and we are the First Episcopal District  which comprises Bermuda, Delaware, New England, New Jersey, New York, Western New York and Philadelphia.

We welcome women of all ages.  We have available the YWI which is the Young Women's Initiative, a unit of the society  that is open to young women between the ages of 18 and 40.  Many of them are in the work place and have young families so their time of meeting may be adjusted to fit their schedules. They  are not separate, but a part of.

In every local church there shall be a Young People's Division (YPD) of the Missionary Society which involves young people from the ages of 2 - 26. The YPD Director works in consultation with the WMS President.

We are a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) working with the United Nations in addressing issues affecting women and children worldwide. We are a giving group, sharing with people where there is a need around the world.  The Society also provides Scholarships for young people in college.  We are sojourners, working overseas to make a difference in others lives.  We study to show ourselves approved and, We are called to strengthen our faith and to continue the ministry of Jesus Christ by service and witness in the world.  For more information, please visit our website at
